It all started so well for Dock as they took a deserved lead on 14 minutes through Gary Reay, but, the home side weren’t going to lie down and die and they upped their game and brought the score level after 25 minutes. Hoylake were then awarded a controversial penalty by referee Nigel Bullock, which seem to astonish both sets of players, but Hoylake weren’t complaining as they converted the spot kick (27). Hoylake scored their third just before the half time break.

Dock must have received an ear bashing at half time as they came for the second half with all guns blazing, Gary Reay got his and Docks third on the 65th minute mark before Colin O’Hanlon brought the game level five minutes later, when he ghosted in on the far post to slot home. Hoylake went 4-3 ahead on the 88th minute with a very well taken effort, Dock did have a chance to draw level one minute later when Mike Saunders delivered a teasing cross which nobody was able to connect to. It must be said, Hoylake were the best team on the day and fully deserved all three points.
