121208Beehive001Dock made it through to the next round of The Houlihan’s Memorial Cup today against fellow Premier Division side, FC Beehive, but only just. Gary Reay put Dock 1-0 up after only 3 minutes when he rounded Beehives keeper and slotted home. Dock should have really gone 3 up soon after when Darren McGuinness was unlucky not to score at the back post, and Gareth McEvoy drilled wide, when maybe a pass to a team mate would have been a better option. Beehive brought the game level on the 22nd minute mark before going 2-1 up after 44 minutes. Gary Reay was awarded a penalty just before the break when he was hacked down in Beehive’s area, after dusting himself down he sent the ball past the keeper to make the half time score 2-2.

Beehive again took the lead one minute after the break when a cross come shot deceived Dock’s keeper and flew over his head and into the back of the net. Dock had many chances to bring the game level but a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the score at 3-2, then, on the 85th minute Dock were awarded a free kick which Darren McGuinness hammered into the net from 25 yards to send the game into extra time. Midway through the first period of extra time Dock were awarded another penalty for handball, Gary Reay again beat the keeper to make the final score FC Beehive 3-4 Dock.
